December 14 flood

From December 12 to the 15, it rained . . . a lot. So much that the pumps could not keep up with the downpour – which has become the norm here in south Louisiana. All the rainwater had no where to go but into the streets, turning roads into rivers and flooding homes and cars.

As of this posting, the amount of rain that fell at the airport was 14.76 inches, making it the wettest month of the year. It’s still short of becoming the wettest month ever; that record still belongs to May 1995 (20 inches in one night).

Those that lived in New Orleans will always remember that night.

These photos were taken at my parents’ house in St. Charles Parish, which took the brunt of the heavy rainfall.

Here’s an example of how much rain we received last night. This is video from WWL-TV shown floodwaters at Mimosa Elementary, a school I attended several years ago.
