On vacation in Florida
It’s been a long summer at LSU and I’m in need of some time away from Louisiana. It was already plan for a 6 day get-away to Navarre Beach, FL, about 30 miles west of Destin, FL. It has been reduced to 3 with a possibility of 4 days because of Tropical Storm Fay. Destin has been the destination for people in New Orleans to go to the beaches. Unfortunately Destin has become a tourist trap; traffic, high-rise condos, crowded beaches. Destin has become Gatlinburg. Navarre Beach is awesome because traffic is not bad and it’s not as crowded as Destin. Navarre Beach does has high-rise condos but it doesn’t bother me as much as it does my parents.
While coming over, it was extremely hard to connect my phone to my MacBook. USBModem supposedly works on OS X, it was a no go. I was able to get PDANet to work on my virtualized Windows XP but was unable to get the connection to be shared with the mac. As much as I love my MacBook, it’s pains me to say that my next notebook (which is looking to be in December and early January), it may not be a Mac.
I have until the end of the year to decide on a new notebook. It’s going to be between a Sony Vaio SR and the MacBook (if the rumors are true and Apple refreshes the notebook line). Even though I like the MacBook, I really miss the two-button mouse. Holding down the alt key and pressing is an inconvenience. Plus, Vista is not that bad. I’ve been using it before the first service pack and I never ran into a problem.
