Losing trust
If your following me on Facebook or Twitter, you might have noticed my rage at some of my fellow classmates for not putting some effort into a group project. The end result: I got a 100! Think everything was settled? Not quite.
This afternoon I got a phone from Rick (name has been changed). Rick tells me that he met a person who does PR at a new fitness club in Baton Rouge. He’s not into the gym scene so he gives this person my number. There’s a problem with this problem:
1. I work for the Reveille, the student newspaper for the LSU main campus in Baton Rouge. If this person found out I work for the Reveille, I would be number one on this persons list. I don’t want to be on a PR list, especially since all this gym would use me as a way to get students to join their gym. If Rick gave my number to Apple, I would be showering him with gifts.
2. HE GAVE MY NUMBER TO A COMPLETE STRANGER! How would you feel if your best friend gave your number to a telemarketer? Plus, I don’t know this person, How do I know if this person knows how to trace my number to my present location? It can be done because I’ve done it. Now, a lot of people are like me and know a lot about the dark side of technology but in this day and age, you have to be careful.
During the entire conservation, Rick opened with “Do you trust me?” Anytime he opens with a weird statement like that, it usually ends ugly. So the real question: Do I trust Rick? Not not and it will take a long time to recover from this.
